About

My name is Cathrine Svensson, and Studio Cathrine is my creative space for art and design.

I was born and raised in northern Sweden in a creative home where there was always building, painting, fixing, and making in various forms. My interest in materials and shapes, and especially the joy of creating with my hands, has been with me since I was a child.

For over thirty years, the Swedish west coast has been my home and a place that means a lot to me. The nature and rugged landscape inspire me, as do architecture, travel, and especially the people I meet. All of these elements influence my work in some way.

I mainly paint with acrylics and various textured materials and really enjoy the process, building up layers, painting over, scraping away, and sometimes starting a new. Often, I don't know exactly where a piece will end up at the start.

The human figure often appears in my work. Faces, bodies, and simple lines, sometimes clearly defined and other times just a feeling or a suggestion. I'm also drawn to surfaces and textures that feel a bit worn, as if they carry their own story.

Alongside my art, I have worked for many years in events, interior design, and product design. Creativity has always been part of both my work and life, although painting has long been my personal retreat -a necessary break from everyday life where I can set everything else aside and simply create.

Welcome warmly to my world of art and design.

Cracks and contours

I often play and experiment with natural color palettes combined with various textured materials. The interaction between light and texture in a painting adds extra depth to the subject and is incredibly fun to create.
